Jacob’s Trek Supercaliber

We are proud to have Jake as part of our team and Mystic Cycle family. Jake has become an incredible Builder and has grown his technical and mechanical abilities impressively. Jake was a huge piece of our new bikes built for the floor before they found new homes with some of you. Without him contributing to assemblies, with an attention to detail, it would have been challenging to keep up this season. Jake has also worked really hard within his passion for racing. His discipline for training and taking care of his body is awe-inspiring. Jake motivates each of us through his dedication and work ethic, which has led him to podium finishes and growth within his role at work alike. We have watched Jake grow into the young man he is becoming, through the Burlingame Badgers, and are honored to be part of his journey.

"My name is Jacob, I race XC mountain bike, Road, and Cyclocross. I have worked at MCC for four years assembling bikes and I am going to tell you about my favorite bike of all time, my Trek Supercaliber.

I custom built my Supercaliber to meet my needs for New England XC mountain bike racing. Some things about my bike that you won’t see on an off-the-shelf build are the 100mm Fox 32 suspension fork, a Garmin Edge 840 solar computer, and the Pirelli Scorpion XCRC tires. The reason that I chose the shorter travel suspension fork was so that I could get into a more aggressive and powerful position. I chose the Garmin Edge 840 solar computer due to its touch screen and solar charging features, which means that I no longer have to worry about running out of battery on long training rides. Now for my favorite part, the TIRES. As my coworkers know, I could talk about the 2.4 Pirelli Scorpion XCRC all day long, but I’ll keep it short. In my opinion, this tire is the best blend of rolling resistance, grip, and puncture protection on the market. This made the decision a no-brainer when choosing what tire to go for.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to put in over 2000 miles on my Supercaliber this year, and I can confidently say that this is the fastest and most fun bike I have ever owned. From 50+ mile adventure rides to blistering fast 90 minute XC races, this bike has reminded me time and time again why I ride bikes. After being set back from an IT band injury early in the season, my trusty carbon fiber steed helped me fight back to a 5th place finish in the NEYC Varsity overall."
