Ramon Caesar's 1993 Trek 1420 - "The Purple Passion"
Caesar is one of our sales team leads at the shop. He is passionate on all types of bikes, but more specifically BMX and classic bikes. You may see him rolling around the shop on one of our 16" used kids bikes. He is a wealth of knowledge and a bundle of energy. He always knows how to make new bike day special for everyone and we are glad to have him as a part of our team!

"This is my bike. There are many like it, but this one is mine.
If my bike could speak to me, I hope its enjoying life as a drop bar road bike converted to my beloved wine-corked flat bar single speed, complete with a rack and era appropriate Avernir panniers.
MCC's current owner, Chris, sold me the bike in the summer of 2015. Rick and Rob still owned the store. MCC had the original layout in our current building. There was a purple Trek 1420 sitting in the rack, handlebars above its neighbors being a size 58 cm. Chris referred me to it for the size and I took it for a test ride. Being 6'4" and my previous cycling experience is twenty inch BMX bikes, I loved the fit of the 1420.
This bike re-invigorated my love for bikes as an adult. The more I learned about the bike, mechanics and bike history in general, the more I was motivated. For example, I learned that road bikes took the idea of moving the shifters from the downtube to the handlebars/brake levers from mountain bikes in the late 90s. I had downtube shifters.
The honeymoon phase was over. The world was in a pandemic and I found my way to consume all the YouTube footage of fixed gear riders. From bike messengers in NYC to fixed gear freestyle (imagine BMX flatland tricks being performed on full sized fixed-gear track bikes) and of course the Olympic velodrome athletes with their unobtanium carbon and ti-magnesium bikes. The only thing that needed to be done was convert the bike into a fixed gear/single speed with the old parts I've had.
It's been 10 years owning The Purple Passion, and every ride does it for me. The bike isn't perfect. For example, I have no grips on the bike and that probably should change. However, I love my bike. There is no other bike like mine. "
