"When Santa Cruz came out with a flat-bar gravel commuter I was beyond thrilled! The best part for me was the fact that the Skitch is also an e-bike. While I am only 33 years old, age does not define who would benefit from an e-bike. As someone who likes to ride with my husband, but does not enjoy the rides that feel like I am getting dragged through the mud, an e-bike is the perfect solution. We get to ride together now and for longer distances. The e-bike has also given me confidence as a rider to push myself. It has also provided an extra layer of support as someone who deals with chronic Lyme Disease and wavering energy levels. Since contracting a mystery illness that took three years to diagnose, being able to get out and be active is such a big deal. Knowing I have a little help to fall back on if and when needed eliminates the riding anxiety I often felt; especially when riding with others. With the Skitch being a flat-bar bike, I am able to be more upright. For me, this is important. I do not enjoy the crunched feeling of a drop bar. My shoulders also do not enjoy that position. While a flat bar is not for everyone, it does offer stability and faith on loose gravel roads where the bike sometimes floats. I feel better able to control the bike when a tire might slip and recover vs. crash. The flat bar also provides the body less stress on our shoulders, a common complaint for riders. Lastly, the range on this e-bike is incredible and impressive. On a recent weekend ride, Chris and I traveled 40 miles and the Skitch still had 30% battery left. I used all modes of assistance during this ride. I would assume I could have gone another 20 miles on this battery charge. This is a range leader for e-bikes. Long story short, ride what you have most fun on, regardless of the stigmas. Stigmas suck and they should be ignored. I'm not cheating. I'm not old, but it shouldn't matter if I was. I'm not incapable of riding a non-e-bike. BUT, I am having way more fun and look forward to getting on my bike more than I ever have.
If you're not a fan of flat-bar, don't worry: the Skitch has a drop bar sister. "
